Kilnaboy Group Water Scheme
Kilnaboy Group Water Scheme was formed in the 1977 with an objective of providing a water supply to the homes and farms of the parish of Kilnaboy.
A committee at the time included the following people, Paddy O’Sullivan, Pauline Collins, Peadar Murphy, John Tierney, Sean Roche, Francis Whelan, Donal Clancy, Kieran Beakey and Michael Reidy.
This committee secured funding to supply water to the Kilnaboy community using an existing borehole which had been provided by local people. The cost of the scheme was £95,000 and this worked well for a number of years before issues such as lime build up in mains and frequent bursts lead to sustainable maintenance costs.
An upgrade to the current scheme was proposed in 2000 under a new committee of John Kelleher, Betty Mullins, Margaret Tierney, Mary Roche, Teddy Kelly, Michael Collins, Kieran Lynch, Jim Maher and Ann McNamara.

A capital grant of 85% of the cost of the project was secured through Clare County Council and the Rural Development Group. The remaining 15% of the cost was raised from the local community.
Kilnaboy GWS serves over 200 members across 26 kilometres of pipe network. The scheme serves both domestic and land connections as well as St Joseph’s Church and Kilnaboy National School.
Water is sourced from a borehole well located in the pump house 475 metres south of Kilnaboy Cross on the R476. At the pumphouse the water is extracted and treated with a combination of ultraviolet and chlorine treatment before being pumped to a sole reservoir located in Drummoher.
The entire network is supplied from this reservoir by gravity pressure only with no additional pumping stations required. The scheme supplies the townlands of Drommoher, Crossard, Kilnaboy, Roughaun, Bunnanagat South, Elmvale, Leana, Coad, Nooan, Inchquin, Anneville, Rinamona, Carrownamaddra, Commons South, Shandangan, Knockaunroe, Ballinphunta.
Below is a map of the pipe network.

The scheme is managed by Cathal Barry, who is the first point of contact in all matters.
